Mounting bearings and bonding shaft-to-sleeve joints with anaerobic adhesives:
Step 1: Select the correct adhesive
Choose an anaerobic adhesive that is designed for fixing bearings and cylindrical fits. Examples include Monolith MH 997-3 or MH 998-3, which have high strength and resistance to dynamic loads.
Step 2: Surface preparation
Before applying the adhesive
- Clean the surfaces: Use a cleaner to remove oil, grease and dirt.
- Degrease: Ensure surfaces are dry and free of any contaminants.
Step 3: Apply the adhesive
- Apply the adhesive: Apply a few drops of anaerobic adhesive to one of the components (e.g. a shaft or bushing). Avoid immersing the entire component in the adhesive.
- Rotary movement: When mating the components, use a rotary motion to help spread the adhesive evenly and fill the gaps[1][9].
Step 4: Assembly
- Assemble the components: Once the adhesive has been applied, quickly join the components together, making sure they are properly aligned.
- Tighten: Tighten the joint to the stop to ensure the joints are properly filled and to initiate the anaerobic cure process.
Step 5: Cure
Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of oxygen. The curing time can range from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the type of adhesive and ambient conditions.
Step 6: Inspect the joint
After the recommended curing time, check the stability of the joint. Ensure that there is no play and that the components are securely bonded.
Bonding roll-to-roll joints with anaerobic adhesives is an effective method of ensuring high strength and resistance to dynamic loads. Following the above steps will ensure durable and reliable joints in a variety of industrial applications.
